There’s nothing like coming across a particular style or paper layout that you love while browsing the galleries, and then being able to figure out how to recreate that style digitally. I love the challenge it poses, and love the feeling of completion when I find a way to make it happen in Photoshop.
One of the trends that has caught my eye lately are the fun Silhouette or Cricut style layouts with paper mats, fun funky paper titles, and a plethora of stickers or elements in between. Because there are so many amazing cut files readily available, I decided we needed to figure out a way to use them in Photoshop.
We’ll explore the following techniques:
- Converting SVG files for use in Photoshop
- Turning SVG cut lines into paper mats
- Creating custom shapes
- Expanding selections to create solid background mats
- Contracting selections to create smaller cut out pieces from a mat
- Creating cut file type titles using the stroke effect and how to manipulate them
- Creating giant clusters while maintaining order in the midst of flower chaos
- Loading styles into your styles panel
- Using shadow presets to add a variety of shadows to your page
- Editing and creating your own shadowing presets
- Creating styles on their own editable layer
- Warping, puppet warping and rotating your drop shadows
