Painted newsprint marries the substrate of newspaper print with abstract two-dimensional design. We’ll use a variety of masks, gesso, and substrate-like backgrounds for photographic blend-work. You’ll learn how to texturize by maximizing the photo-editor’s Layer Panel and unlocking and repositioning masks.
We’ll explore the following techniques:
- How to define a photo shape using a combination of gesso stamps
- Imply texture using stacked blend modes
- Unlock masks and reposition to create self-blended texture
- Add colorization using marks and texture in front of and behind the photo
- Finalize the newsprint look with headline and column journaling
