Digital collage seems easy enough when using one or even two photos at most. But how does one work digital collage magic in a multi-photo space with additional scrapbook-like artifacts like embellishments, title and journaling?
In no. 73 Event Collage, we’ll borrow the shape-design process from the no. 72 Portrait Collage class to build a collage-style, multi-photo digital layout with plenty of playful layout enhancements.
We’ll explore the following techniques:
- Pre-determine the placement of a three-level hierarchy of photos on a two-page spread
- Fix blemishes using the Spot Healing Brush
- Extract focal subjects from the background of a photo
- Use ‘dummy’ Adjustment Layers to self-blend photos for improved contrast
- Define the shape of photos using a mask and transfer combination
- Refine additional shape using tertiary photos
- Activate empty space using flat floral illustrations and transfers
- Craft a vertically stacked, playful title
- Create a multi-toned black and white background paper effect
- Fine-tune and finalize the layout using dimensional embellishments and journaling
